Afghanistan delivered a merciless lesson for Bangladesh, crushing Bangladesh by 200 runs in Abu Dhabi to complete a 3-0 ODI series sweep.
After posting a formidable 293 for 9 on Tuesday, the Afghans dismantled Bangladesh for just 93, exposing the Tigers’ enduring vulnerabilities.
The rout was a perfect response to Bangladesh’s 3-0 domination in the T20Is, as Afghanistan left the Tigers’ ODI unit looking rudderless and disjointed.
Afghanistan’s innings was anchored by half-centuries from Ibrahim Zadran and Mohammad Nabi, while seamer Bilal Sami stole the show with a career-defining 5-wicket haul.
Yet it was Rashid Khan who laid bare the depth of Bangladesh’s batting ineptitude, claiming three wickets in his first three overs and reducing the middle order to a state of panic.
Bangladesh’s batsmen offered pitiful resistance from the outset.
Mohammad Naim struggled for 23 balls before being caught at slip by Azmatullah Omarzai for 7, typifying Bangladesh’s persisting inability to build at the top. Saif Hassan managed some fleeting brilliance with two sixes and a four, but his valiant efforts were entirely undermined by the shambolic performances around him.
Najmul Hossain Shanto continued his ODI woes, bowled off an inside edge by Sami, while Towhid Hridoy fell to Rashid’s googly on his first ball.
Sami then methodically executed the rout: Mehidy Hasan Miraz was caught behind, Shamim Hossain run out, Nurul Hasan lbw, followed by Tanvir Islam, Rishad, and Hasan Mahmud -- all victims of precise bowling.
Tuesday’s batting woes were a hapless implosion, as the batters appeared without any capacity to rebuild or resist.
Afghanistan had earlier set the stage with an opening partnership of 99 between Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, with Gurbaz striking 5 fours and a six in 42 and Zadran posting a composed fifty before adding a 74-run partnership with Sediqullah Atal.
Bangladesh’s brief spark -- three wickets in four overs from Saif -- was negligible against the overall dominance of Afghanistan.
Nabi’s late blitz -- three sixes off Miraz and another six and three fours off Hasan Mahmud -- pushed the margin to humiliation territory, as Afghanistan added 44 runs in the last two overs.
