The schedule for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) board of directors’ election has been announced, with the vote set to be held on Jun 7 at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

This will be the second BCB election in eight months.

To contest for a director’s post at the BCB, a candidate must first be a councillor.

A total of 23 directors are elected through votes from councillors across three categories. Two additional directors are nominated directly by the National Sports Council.

The president and vice-presidents are then elected through votes of these 25 directors.

The deadline for submission of councillor lists was Saturday.

Earlier, it was said that 192 councillors would participate in the election.

A draft voter list will be published on Sunday at 4pm.

Objections to the draft list will be accepted from 10am to 4pm the following day, with hearings scheduled on Tuesday from 10am to 4pm.

The final voter list will be published at 5pm on the same day.

Nomination papers will be distributed on Wednesday and Thursday from 10am to 4pm, while submission will take place on Thursday and Friday from 11am to 5pm.

Scrutiny of nomination papers and publication of the list will take place on the following Saturday, followed by hearings on appeals the next day.

Withdrawal of nominations will be allowed on May 25 from 10am to 12pm.

The final list of candidates will be published at 2pm the same day.

Postal or e-ballot applications, where applicable, must be submitted by midnight on May 25 Bangladesh time.

Ballots will be sent from Jun 1 to Jun 6 and must reach the returning officer’s office by 1pm on election day.

Voting will take place from 10am to 4pm on Jun 7.

Unlike the previous election, which was held at a five-star hotel in the capital, this time the vote will be held inside the BCB board room at the Mirpur stadium.

Vote counting will begin immediately after polling, with results expected to be announced at 6pm.

The election of the president and vice-presidents may also take place the same night.

This will be the second BCB election within eight months.

The previous election was held on Oct 6, when a board was formed and Aminul Islam Bulbul was elected president unopposed.

However, allegations of irregularities and bias led many potential candidates to withdraw.

A committee was later formed to investigate the allegations, and based on its report, the National Sports Council dissolved the board led by Aminul on Apr 7.

An 11-member ad-hoc committee was then formed, headed by Tamim Iqbal, with instructions to hold elections within three months.

The election is now being held within two months.

A three-member election commission was formed on Wednesday, headed by senior Supreme Court lawyer Ahsanul Karim.

The other members are Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Israel Hawlader and Director (Planning and Development) and Deputy Secretary ABM Ehsanul Mamun of the National Sports Council.
