Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed has categorically denied allegations of assault and making threats following claims that he lured someone to an ambush over the phone.
The pacer, preoccupied with changing his residence, explained he was unable to answer calls earlier and claimed that a friend of his was the one assaulted.
“The accusations against me are entirely false and baseless. I didn’t assault anyone, and they are trying to embarrass me with a fabricated police complaint.” Taskin said on Monday.
“I have a friend named Rosi and they have beaten him. That’s why I contacted the OC [officer-in-charge] of Mohammadpur Police Station and they conducted a search for the perpetrators. This is the reason why the suspects have filed a general diary against me.”
A man named Sifatur Rahman Sourav, reportedly a childhood friend of Taskin, had lodged the general diary at Mirpur Model Police Station, accusing the cricketer of assault and threats.
The complaint alleges that on Sunday night, Taskin lured him to the Sony Cinema Hall in Mirpur, where he was beaten and threatened.
Mirpur Model Police Station's chief Sajjad Hossain told bdnews24.com that they have received a complaint against Taskin.
“We have received a complaint alleging that Taskin assaulted someone outside Sony Cinema Hall on Sunday night. We are investigating the veracity of the complaint.”
The 30-year-old, currently out of action following the T20 series against Pakistan, last played for Bangladesh on Jul 24.
