Bangladesh have declared their second innings on 297–4 shortly after lunch on day four of the Mirpur Test, leaving Ireland with a daunting target of 509.

The hosts added only three overs’ worth of runs after the interval before captain Najmul Hossain Shanto called his batters in immediately after Mominul Haque fell for 87. The left-hander was caught at silly mid-off by Curtis Campher off leg-spinner Gavin Hoey, ending a 123-run partnership that had anchored Bangladesh’s morning session.

Mominul faced 118 balls and struck 10 fours, extending his excellent form in the match. Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 53 from 81 balls, with a six and two fours, building on his historic first-innings century in his 100th Test.

Bangladesh closed their second innings at 297–4 in 69 overs, building on their first-innings 476 to set Ireland a target that will require a record-breaking chase.

Score summary

Bangladesh 1st innings: 476

Ireland 1st innings: 265

Bangladesh 2nd innings: 297–4 dec. in 69 overs (Shadman 78, Mominul 87, Shanto 1, Mushfiqur 53*; Hoey 2–84, McBrine 1–82, Neill 1–48)

Ireland need 509 runs to win.
