The Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal has raised alarm over a late-night protest at Eden Mohila College, alleging that a demonstration demanding a complete ban on student politics was in fact instigated by Islami Chhatri Sangstha, the women’s wing of Islami Chhatra Shibir.

In a statement and social media posts on Sunday, Chhatra Dal claimed that its activists were being harassed under the guise of “general students”, allegedly mobilised by what it described as clandestine political operatives.
Around 11pm on Saturday, a group of students broke open the main gate of the college and staged a protest calling for a complete ban on political activities on campus.
During the demonstration, they tore down a banner featuring a Chhatra Dal leader and attempted to set it on fire, while shouting slogans such as: “No place for student politics in Eden”.
In a post on Facebook, Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir linked the incident to previous unrest at Titumir College, alleging a coordinated pattern.
“The operatives of Chhatri Sangstha recently created a midnight mob at Titumir College to harass Chhatra Dal leaders,” he wrote, adding that a figure who had earlier led “general student” protests was later identified as a Shibir secretary.
He also alleged that “the mob was created at Eden College at the instigation of undercover Chhatri Sangstha workers to harass Chhatra Dal leaders and other political activists”.
Nasir urged the college authorities not to “bow down to Shibir’s manoeuvres” and called for protection of students’ political rights and safety, warning of resistance against “mob violence” if such incidents continue.

Responding to the allegations, SM Farhad, central publicity secretary of Shibir, rejected the claims and instead accused the BNP-backed student body of distorting the situation.
He argued that students were protesting due to fear of Chhatra Dal’s alleged involvement in extortion and criminal activity following the Aug 5, 2024 change in political power.
Nasir, however, maintained that political participation is a fundamental student right and accused Shibir of using “secret networks” to undermine campus politics.
