The Rajshahi University syndicate has also decided to suspend the “dependent quota”, while the administration has said the RUCSU election will be held on schedule.
The decision came at an emergency syndicate meeting held at 5:15pm on Sunday, where two separate inquiry committees were also formed to investigate clashes involving teachers, administrative staff and students over the quota issue.
Registrar Iftekharul Alam Masud confirmed the decisions, saying: “A five-member internal investigation committee and a judicial inquiry committee have been formed over Saturday’s clashes linked to the dependent quota. Admissions under this institutional facility will remain suspended for now.”
He said the matter had been reported to the syndicate, and a final decision would be made after discussions with all relevant bodies.
According to him, the syndicate has also urged the Election Commission, teachers, students and all stakeholders to ensure RUCSU elections are held on time.
Meanwhile, university teachers, officers and staff announced a “complete shutdown” programme in response to the alleged assault of a faculty member during Saturday’s protest.
They, however, clarified that the shutdown would not affect RUCSU-related activities.
Moktar Hossain, president of the University Officers’ Association, said: “Our previously announced ‘complete shutdown’ programme will continue. If our demands are not met, we will go for an indefinite strike.
“Transport services and the RUCSU election will remain outside the scope of this programme,” he added.
