Daffodil International University has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Paramount Group to implement a 3.4-megawatt solar power project, marking a move towards wider use of renewable energy.
The project, to be implemented under the OPEX model, will allow the university to use solar power without any upfront investment while ensuring long-term cost stability.
It is expected to cut around 3,500 to 4,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, equivalent to the environmental impact of planting about 60,000 trees.
The system will not require water use or produce harmful emissions, making it a clean energy solution.
Excess electricity generated will be supplied to the national grid in exchange for credits, helping further reduce electricity costs for the university.
The signing ceremony was held at Daffodil Smart City, the university’s permanent campus.
Paramount Group Chairman Shakhawat Hossain said the partnership reflects both a business initiative and social responsibility, adding that the project will contribute to environmental protection, energy savings and sustainable development.
He also said the university will be the first in Bangladesh to implement advanced solar technology on such a scale, setting an example for the education and energy sectors.
Daffodil International University Board of Trustees Chairman Md Sabur Khan said sustainable development is a necessity, not an option, and described the project as a step towards integrating education, technology and environmental responsibility.
He said the initiative aims to develop a green campus and raise environmental awareness among students, while also helping address national energy challenges and encouraging investments in renewable energy.
Beyond energy savings, the project will also be used as a practical learning platform for students to gain hands-on experience in renewable energy systems and research.
