Daffodil International University (DIU) has held a roundtable to map learning needs for its proposed Post-Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Business and ESG Management.
The discussion, titled “Learning Needs Mapping for the Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Sustainable Business and ESG Management”, took place on Tuesday at the university’s Daffodil Smart City campus, organised by DIU’s Sustainability Wing under Swisscontact’s PROGRESS project, funded by the embassies of Sweden and Switzerland.
Industry representatives, academics, policymakers and prospective learners discussed the skills required in Bangladesh’s ready-made garment sector as global regulations and buyers push factories to meet stricter environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards.
Speakers pointed to growing demand for training in areas such as decarbonisation, sustainability reporting, governance compliance and data-driven monitoring. Participants also highlighted the value of practical modules using factory data to help professionals apply ESG processes in workplace settings.
The meeting noted the need for flexible learning options for mid-career professionals, especially women, who remain underrepresented in ESG-focused roles. Stakeholders said employment opportunities are widening as factories recruit staff for emissions tracking, compliance audits, social performance reviews and climate-related disclosures.
DIU Registrar Mohammed Nadir Bin Ali thanked Swisscontact, sector experts and development partners for their input, saying the feedback would support the development of an industry-relevant curriculum.
Project Director Khalid Md Bahauddin said, “The insights shared today will directly shape the PGD in Sustainable Business and ESG Management and help position Bangladesh as a regional leader in ESG capacity development.”
