Biman Bangladesh Airlines has signed a deal with Boeing to purchase 14 aircraft amid ongoing discussions over fleet expansion, with the total cost estimated at $3.7 billion, or Tk 458.08 billion.
The agreement was signed at a hotel in Dhaka on Thursday night, according to the national flag carrier.
The order includes 10 wide-body Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 4 narrow-body Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, aimed at strengthening long-haul and regional operations.
Biman’s Managing Director and CEO Kaizer Sohel Ahmed said the new aircraft, which are fuel-efficient and technologically advanced, will support fleet modernisation, strengthen operational capacity, and help expand the airline’s international route network.
He added that this would bolster Bangladesh’s position in the global aviation market.
During the previous interim government, former commerce secretary Mahbubur Rahman had said in July last year that a purchase order for 25 aircraft from Boeing would be placed.
At the time, Biman had told media it had no information about the planned procurement.
Biman’s board took a policy decision on Dec 30, 2025, to proceed with the purchase, a decision now finalised with the signing of the contract.
