The Dubai Taxi Company is interested in recruiting another 6,000 drivers from Bangladesh this year.
The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment said that interviews for interested candidates will kick off on Monday.
A delegation from Dubai Taxi met with Expatriates’ Welfare Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury at his office on Sunday, where they expressed their interest in hiring more workers.
A press statement from the ministry said the minister thanked the delegation from Dubai and expressed gratitude for recruiting skilled drivers from Bangladesh.
He also hoped that this recruitment trend would continue in the coming days.
The minister assured the delegation of all necessary support from the ministry throughout the recruitment process.
He requested Dubai Taxi to arrange salaries and allowances for drivers during their training period after arriving in Dubai.
Also, he urged the delegation to recruit professionals such as doctors and nurses from Bangladesh in addition to drivers.
During the meeting, representatives of Dubai Taxi said that around 15,000 employees from 27 countries are currently working for their company as taxi and limousine drivers. Of them, nearly 8,000 are Bangladeshis.
They said Bangladeshi workers are given priority in recruitment because they are extremely hardworking. They also noted that Bangladeshi women are successfully working as drivers at Dubai Airport.
The delegation said that from Monday, the selection process for qualified Bangladeshi drivers will begin through interviews at the Bangladesh-Korea Technical Training Center in Dhaka. This time, the company is interested in recruiting another 1,500 drivers, bringing the total planned recruitment for this year to 6,000 drivers.
State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare Md. Nurul Haque said at the event, “At present, it costs a lot of money for a driver from Bangladesh to go to Dubai. These workers are extremely poor and hardworking people who arrange this money through great hardship or loans.”
Considering their financial situation, he especially requested that migration costs be kept within Tk 100,000.
Representatives of "Al Anas Overseas", the only authorised recruiting agency for sending workers to this UAE company, were also present at the event.
They said they are interested in hiring workers from Bangladesh not only as drivers but also as cleaners, technicians, and mechanics. They sought overall cooperation from the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment in this regard.
