Govt to import 100,000 tonnes of rice from Myanmar, Dubai

The government has authorised the import of 100,000 tonnes of rice from the international market from Myanmar and Dubai.

Of the total amount, 50,000 tonnes of Atap rice will be imported from Myanmar under a government-to-government arrangement, while another 50,000 tonnes of non-basmati parboiled rice will come from Dubai, the Advisory Committee on Government Purchases decided on Wednesday.

The total cost of the imports will amount to Tk 4.46 billion, the finance ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

Under package-2 for the 2025-26 fiscal year, 50,000 tonnes of non-basmati parboiled rice will be imported from Dubai-based CredentOne FZCO at a rate of $355.99 per tonne, costing Tk 2.17 billion.

Along with that, 50,000 tonnes of Atap rice will be imported from Myanmar on a G2G basis at $376.50 per tonne, with an estimated cost of Tk 2.29 billion.

The committee also approved proposals to purchase 35,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser at $356.25 per tonne, 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser at $775.33 per tonne, and 30,000 tonnes of urea fertiliser at $413.33 per tonne.
