A Dhaka court has dismissed a general diary, or GD, filed by Badiuzzaman Dider, administrator of the mobile financial services provider Nagad, against its former managing director Tanvir A Mishuk on charges of making threats.
Badiuzzaman filed the complaint with the Banani Police Station in Dhaka on Sept 5.
SI Mostafa of the non-GR branch of the court on Saturday told bdnews24.com that the investigation officer had applied to the court on Sept 6 to investigate the complaint.
“Later, the court asked the plaintiff to appear on Nov 20 for the hearing. However, the complainant did not appear before the court.”
“Due to this reason, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter rejected the complaint."
Banani police Sub-Inspector Wahidul Hasan, the investigation officer of the charge, said: "Before me, SI Mohammad Ali Saikat was investigating the complaint. It was later transferred to me. The plaintiff was scheduled to appear in court on Nov 20 with his national identity card. The court rejected the plea as the petitioner could not make it."
On Aug 21, the central bank appointed Bangladesh Bank director Badiuzzaman as the Nagad administrator after dissolving the previous board.
The following day, Mishuk welcomed the decision in a statement, noting that the recent misinformation campaign surrounding Nagad “will end” through the appointment of an administrator.
Later on Sept 4, Badiuzzaman alleged that he was sensing a “threat” after receiving a text message from Nagad's former CEO Mishuk through WhatsApp.
Mishuk's statement regarding the GD was not known at the time.
However, at 10:36pm on Sept 10, Mishuk wrote on Facebook: “After Badiuzzaman took over, I only told him to work with professionalism. Because he fired 1,617 employees just after taking charge. The terminated employees can also move to court for justice.”
"I had just asked him to take a little time before making a decision considering the current situation in the country. He took it as a threat."
On not appearing before the court, Badiuzzaman told bdnews24.com: “I don't know what happened after the GD. I didn't know anything after that. It's not going to happen anymore."
However, Mishuk expressed satisfaction over the dismissal of the GD.
"I am relieved and grateful for the court's verdict, which has proved the baselessness of the allegations brought against Nagad and me. Honesty and transparency have always been the cornerstones of my professional life. This decision has inspired me to contribute more to the fintech sector."
The digital financial service “Nagad” was launched on Mar 26, 2019.
