Chittagong, August 2 (BDNEWS) – Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI) is going to start the construction of its much talked about 23-storey Chittagong World Trade Centre with most modern facilities in the city.
The construction would cost about Tk 200 crore and the work is likely to be formally inaugurated by the Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in the first week of November this year.
MA Latif, acting president of CCCI, told BDNEWS, "Tender procedure is already underway. The last date of submission of schedules is November 23. And we hope to select the contractor within the first week of October."
The CCCI has been given about 1.25 acre of land by the government and different organisations to construct the proposed World Trade Centre at Chittagong.
However, it could not take the initiative for construction since 1994 due to land related complicacy until the government, Public Works Department and Bangladesh Railway have formally handed over the ownership of the land to it in 2004.
The South Korea designed building would be completed in two phases. In the first phase they would build the first 11 storeys with modern trade facilities and then they would construct the shopping mall and a four star hotel. The building includes a most modern auditorium and WTC club as well.
The CCCI revised the original design to cut TK 50 crore cost which had been previously estimated at Tk 250 crore.
