Opposition Leader has urged the government to restore the scrapped caretaker government provision to oversee the next general election.
“We won’t take part in any election under the partisan government because there will be no 'level playing field' in Bangladesh if the election is held under the partisan government. Make arrangements to hold the election under the non-party government. You’ll be compelled to hold election under the non-party administration,” she said on Saturday.

She said this while participating in a general discussion on the proposed budget.
Parliament proceedings resumed at 3:25pm with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
As per the 15th Amendment to the Constitution, the next parliamentary elections will be held under the ruling Awami League government which will hand over power to an elected government. But the BNP-led opposition is claiming the elections under a partisan government will not be free and fair.
Senior leaders of the ruling party have been saying that BNP must participate in the next election giving up its demand as the recently held mayoral elections to four city corporations were held in a free and fair manner.
Claiming that the city corporation elections were not held fairly, Khaleda said: “Your candidates would have forfeited their security money had the election been held fairly. We’ve information about your criminal activities.”
The former Prime Minister recalled that even during the BNP regime the Awami League candidates had won the mayoral elections to Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet city corporations and the elections were held fairly.
The Opposition Leader further said that they have no reservations in holding discussion to resolve the political crisis over the framework of the polls-time administration.
She, however, added that recent remarks of the ruling party leaders reflected their unwillingness in holding dialogue.
