A joint statement was issued by the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist (BFUJ), Dhaka Union of Journalists, and leaders of journalist bodies in Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Bogra, Dinajpur, Jessore, Narayanganj, Mymensingh, and Cox's Bazar.
Speaking at a programme in Sylhet on Saturday, Ali vented his anger at journalists, "Be careful, you won't be able to sleep with your wives at home."
Earlier, the minister had been criticised for smoking in front of children at a function. He had then offered a public apology.
Sunday's statement said Ali had been consistently making "provocative" comments about journalists and the mass media.
Ali said the National Broadcast Policy had been cleared despite ‘shortcomings’.
He said he would have done more on the policy if he were present at the Cabinet meeting which cleared it.
“Be careful from now on. Do not write whatever you feel like,” warned the minister.
Ali claimed the prime minister had praised his previous comments regarding the media.
Journalists in the statement said it was "embarrassing" the way Ali was associating the prime minister's name with his "obscene anti-media remarks made in real bad taste".
