The ‘Dhaka Rally’ will begin at Shahbagh at 3pm. The Ganajagaran Mancha has been promoting the event on social media with #DhakaRally.
“Hundreds of thousands of Rohingyas are being subjected to ethnic cleansing and tortures unleashed by the Myanmar army. The world is shocked at their brutality,” Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker said in a statement on Thursday.
“Rohingya men, women and children are coming to our borders everyday to escape the persecution. Corpses of Rohingya children have been washing up on our shores.”
Bangladesh must play a vital role to help them return to their country where their basic rights must be maintained, said Sarker.
“Myanmar government must stop the genocide. We have to inform the world about the genocide and create mass awareness.”
“Let’s forget our differences and join the rally to let know the world that Bangladesh stands by the Rohingyas,” he said.
Almost half a million Rohingya Muslims have been living in two registered camps and makeshift settlements in bordering southeast districts over the last few decades.
Myanmar, a Buddhist-majority country, has not responded to Bangladesh's repeated calls to take them back while continuing its reluctance to view them as citizens.
Army response to attacks on border police posts in October last year caused a wave of refugees to flee to Bangladesh.
A much larger exodus began after Aug 25 when Muslim insurgents attacked Myanmar security posts, prompting the army to respond with an even more violent 'clearance operation'.
