Dhaka, Jan 18 (bdnews24.com) – The Civil Aviation Authority has appointed retired air marshal Jamaluddin Ahmed chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, a top official of the state-run carrier said on Sunday.
"Former air chief Jamaluddin has replaced Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury and starts work on Sunday," said Biman general manager (corporate affairs) Firoz Khan.
Chowdhury was unanimously elected chairman of the Biman board of directors on Dec 27.
An advisor to the former caretaker government in 2001, Chowdhury served the government in various capacities including secretary, NBR chairman and Biman managing director. After retirement Chowdhury was also executive director of BRAC and chairman of the SME Foundation.
The Awami League government in June 2001 had elevated Jamaluddin to the highest air force rank four days ahead of his retirement.
The past BNP-led government stripped him of the promotion in Oct 2004 saying there was no such post in the organogram of the Bangladesh Air Force.
The High Court in Feb 2008 restored the title, declaring illegal the government's 2004 notification stripping Jamaluddin of the rank.
The former air chief joined Awami League on his retirement from the force.
