Aminul Islam, special assistant to Chief Advisor Yunus, resigns

Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam says that he does not know the reason for the resignation

M Aminul Islam, who was assigned to the Ministry of Education with equivalent status to a state minister, has resigned from his post as special assistant to Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus.

He informed the media that he had sent his resignation letter to the Chief Advisor’s Office on Monday.

Regarding his resignation, the Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said: "I know that he submitted his resignation. But I do not know why he resigned."

An official at the Chief Advisor’s Office said that the government had wanted him to resign.

The interim government led by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, came to power on Aug 8 after a student-led mass movement ousted the Awami League government on Aug 5.

There have been several rounds of changes in the advisory council of the interim government in the seven months since then. New faces have been added. Currently, the chief advisor is working alongside 22 advisors.

Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, or CR Abrar, was the latest advisor to be sworn in on Mar 5. He was given the education ministry portfolio.

Previously, Wahiduddin Mahmud had been overseeing both the education and planning ministries.

Of the three special advisors – who received equivalent status to state ministers – sworn in last November, Aminul was assigned to support the education advisor.
