Dhaka, Dec 28 (bdnews24.com) – A discussion will be held in the city on Thursday on the occasion of the 16th death anniversary of the renowned journalist Monajatuddin.
Monajatuddin Smrity Sangsad will hold the discussion at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) auditorium.
Charon Sangbadik Monajatuddin Smirti Award-2009 and 2010 will be given away at the programme.
Born in Rangpur district in 1945, Monajatuddin was one of the pioneer journalists known for rural journalism and investigative reporting.
He started his journalism career with 'Bogra Bulletin' in the 1960s. After the independence, he launched the publication of 'Dainik Rangpur', but it was closed due to lack of advertisement and sponsorship.
Monajatuddin worked mostly as the northern region correspondent of national dailies like Dainik Awaj, Dainik Azad and Dainik Sangbad.
Later he joined Daily Janakantha. He was working there until his death in an accident while investigating a corruption case in 1995.
He authored 11 books based on his reports, the true stories and his experiences and analysis while working as a reporter. The books, which were very well received by the readers, include 'Path Theke Pathe', 'Songbad Nepothyo' and 'Payrabander Shekor Songbad'.
He received Philips Award in 1987 and prestigious Ekusay Padak in 1997 for his outstanding performance.
