A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking Tk 5 million in compensation from Ifad Motors Ltd after suffering fractured ribs in a road crash involving a double-decker Saintmartin Paribahan bus owned by the company.
Md Bahauddin Al Imran filed the petition on Sunday.
The petition also seeks an order cancelling the route permit and licence of the “unauthorised” double-decker bus involved in the accident.
The respondents include the home secretary, the road transport and bridges secretary, the inspector general of police, the chief of Highway Police, the chairman of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), and the secretary of the Bangladesh Sleeper AC Bus Owners Association.
Bahauddin said the petition also sought directives to prevent commercial passenger vehicles from operating recklessly beyond speed limits on roads and highways across the country.
It also asks for visible quick response (QR) codes containing information on vehicle fitness, registration and tax to be placed on every passenger bus.
The petition further seeks the formation of rapid rescue teams near accident-prone stretches of roads and highways, comprising members of the Fire Service, Highway Police and local police.
According to Bahauddin, the Saintmartin Paribahan bus was travelling from Chattogram to Dhaka when it crashed in Cumilla’s Chauddagram around 2:05am on Sept 19, 2025.
The bus made a 180-degree turn and plunged into nearby farmland in the Mia Bazar area, he said.
The driver and his assistant fled after the accident.
“The bus was plunged into darkness within moments. As frightened passengers screamed, they were brought out with the help of police and other passengers,” Bahauddin said.
He said he suffered fractures to five ribs on his left side, along with mental and physical complications.
The petition says he had to remain on complete rest at home for a long period on medical advice, causing him financial loss.
Bahauddin said he had sent notices to the respondents seeking action, but filed the petition after receiving no response.
