The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) prosecution has expressed hope that the verdict in the case filed against former information minister Hasanul Haq Inu over the killing of six individuals during the July Uprising in Kushtia will be delivered this month.
Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam expressed the hope after the hearing on Tuesday.
The tribunal fixed Feb 17 as the date for recording testimony in support of the suspect.
The defence had requested the testimony of five witnesses.
The tribunal, however, allowed only three to testify, citing reasons to fulfil legal requirements.
Tajul said the prosecution’s testimony in the case has already been completed.
Tuesday was scheduled for the defence to present its testimony.
After recording the testimony of the three defence witnesses, the court will hear the parties argue.
“Two cases are awaiting verdicts in separate tribunals. We hope that the verdicts will be delivered within this month,” said Tajul.
Court documents reveal that Inu is facing trial over eight counts of charges, including murder, incitement, and conspiracy during the July Uprising in Kushtia town.
The victims included students, businessmen, and workers.
Raisul Haq, a July Uprising activist who was shot in Kushtia, accused Inu of ordering the attack in his statement.
Awami League’s Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif is also facing trial over the Kushtia murders.
