Bangladesh’s Senior Secretary of Home Affairs Nasimul Ghani has left for a nine-day trip to Pakistan to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

He arrived at Islamabad International Airport in Pakistan on a Thai Airways flight on Wednesday night, a press release from the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

Upon arrival at the airport, he was received by Pakistan’s Special Secretary to the Ministry of Interior Dawood Muhammad Bareach, and Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Md Iqbal Hussain Khan.

"During the visit, discussions will be held on Bangladesh and Pakistan’s fight against drugs and terrorism, mutual cooperation between the police academies of the two countries in police training, and consensus between the two countries on the Rohingya issue."

In addition, the release mentioned that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) titled "Combating Illicit Trafficking and Abuse of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and their Precursors" will be signed between the two countries during the visit.

In addition, the home secretary will inaugurate e-passport service at the Bangladesh High Commission in Pakistan in Islamabad and the Bangladesh Mission in Karachi.

Gani will visit the Safe City Project implemented in Pakistan, the Pakistan Police Academy and the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGI&P).

The senior secretary will return home on Sept 26.

The statement expressed the hope that the visit will play an important role in improving diplomatic and political relations between the two countries.
