Four people have died in separate electrocution incidents in Sherpur and Chandpur.
In Sherpur’s Nokla Upazila, two farmers were killed and another man critically injured after coming into contact with a live electric wire that had snapped and fallen into a paddy field.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in Puladeshi village, said Nokla Police Station chief (OC) Ripon Chandra Gop.
The dead were identified as Mintu Mia, 55, and Angur, 50.
Another villager, Samirul, 60, was seriously injured and later transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Locals said one of the men was first electrocuted after stepping on a live wire from an irrigation line that had fallen into the field. Two others were electrocuted while attempting to rescue him.
Nokla Upazila Health Complex emergency medical officer Maliha Mujat said three people were brought to the hospital in the evening, two of whom had died before arrival.
Police said an unnatural death case has been filed over the incident.
Meanwhile, in Chandpur’s Matlab South Upazila, a woman and her son were electrocuted while attempting to draw power from a roadside electric pole to connect a shallow water machine.
The incident took place around 9:30pm on Tuesday at a house in South Nalua village, said Md Hafizur Rahman Manik, chief (OC) of Matlab South Police Station.
The victims were identified as Amena Begum Rina, 65, and her son Enamul Haque Russell Khan, 35.
Police said the mother and son had gone to connect the machine to a newly built house about 500 yards from their residence when they were electrocuted.
Locals noticed flames and rushed to the scene, attempting to douse the fire with sand. However, both had died by the time they were rescued.
Assistant Superintendent of Police for Matlab Circle Jabir Husnain Sanib later visited the scene. As no complaint was filed by the family, the bodies were handed over to relatives after legal formalities, police said.
