Protesting officers of the Secretariat demanding the scrapping of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance have called on the government to find a solution before the approaching Eid-ul-Azha.
Badiul Kabir, co-chairman of the Secretariat Officers and Employees Unity Forum, made the call on Thursday.
He said, “The organisational activities will continue until the Public Service Amendment Ordinance is withdrawn. If the demands are met, the employees will perform their duties in the proper environment.”
Badiul Kabir said, “The matter is pending as the chief advisor is outside the country. That is why I refrained from the program for a day.
“At the request of the senior secretaries, I announced a one-hour work stoppage by moving away from the strict programme. Today, the employees observed it.”
Nurul Islam, another co-chairman of the forum, said: “The higher-ups assured us. There are four days before Eid. The chief advisor will come on Saturday. We may get promising news on Sunday.”
He said they will gather at Badamtala at 11am on Sunday and hand over a memorandum to Land Advisor Ali Imam Majumder, Energy Advisor Fouzul Kabir Khan, and Environment Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan.
On Monday, memorandums will be handed over to Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain and Information Advisor Mahfuj Alam.
Nurul Islam said that the protesters will return to work only if they receive “positive” news on Sunday.
