The Chief Advisor’s Office (CAO) has dismissed media reports claiming a significant surge in major crimes this year, calling them “inaccurate”.
In a statement issued on Monday, the office said: “The reports suggesting a substantial increase in the country’s crime rate this year have created public fear and a sense of insecurity.”
Citing data from Police Headquarters, it noted that the trend in major crimes has remained stable over the past 10 months.
Insisting that there is “no indication” of a prompt rise in serious offences, the press note read: “In reality, the rate of most major crimes is either declining or holding steady. However, a slight increase has been observed in certain specific types of offences.”
Urging citizens to remain vigilant, the CAO also stressed the importance of maintaining trust in law-enforcing agencies.
“The overall stability in crime levels indicates that the situation is under control,” it added.
