Several parts of northern and northeastern Bangladesh are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next two days, as the monsoon system over the region gains renewed strength.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), in a bulletin issued Friday, said the downpours are likely in many areas of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions between Saturday evening and the following two days.
According to the regular weather update, the monsoon trough extends across Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, northern Bangladesh and into Assam, with another extension reaching the northern Bay of Bengal.
The monsoon is currently slightly active over Bangladesh and moderately active over the northern Bay.
Due to this, most areas in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and many areas in Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds.
Some areas across the country may also see moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Day and night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged throughout the country during this period.
In the past 24 hours until Friday, the highest rainfall was recorded in Feni with 51mm, followed by 48mm in Sylhet, 42mm in Chattogram, and 41mm in Cumilla.
The highest temperature on Friday was recorded in Dimla, Nilphamari at 34ºC.
