Scrapping of Ad-din Hospital’s licence challenged at High Court

A lawyer has filed a petition at the High Court challenging the decision to cancel the licence of Ad-din Medical College Hospital in Dhaka’s Moghbazar over the death of six newborns at the facility.

Akhand told bdnews24.com that the bench of Justice Razik-Al-Jalil and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury will hear the petition.

The government scrapped the hospital’s licence on Jun 11 following the newborns’ deaths.

In its decision, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said that the hospital has 30 days to challenge the cancellation.

The six newborns died over the course of a few hours at a post-operative ward at the hospital early on May 27.

The father of one newborn filed a case at Ramna Police Station over allegations of death due to negligence.

The Ministry of Health formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident. The hospital administration also formed an internal committee to probe the situation.
