Bangladesh has recorded 580 new hospital admissions from dengue in the past 24 hours, the highest in a single day in 2025 so far.
This brings the total number of hospitalisations from the disease this year to 34,411.
The previous record for the year was Aug 31, which saw 568 hospitalisations.
Three more people died from dengue fever over the same period, the Directorate General of Health Services said on Sunday, bringing the total number of fatalities this year to 135.
One patient died at Dhaka’s Mugda Medical College Hospital, one at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, and one at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Two of the dead were men aged 22, while the third was a 49-year-old woman.
The highest number of dengue deaths in a single month this year was 41, recorded in July, followed by 39 in August.
The DGHS has reported 13 deaths this month so far.
In addition, 19 people died in June, 10 in January, three in February, seven in April, and three in May. No dengue patients died in March.
July saw the highest number of dengue hospitalisations this year, with 10,684 admissions. This was followed by August, with 10,496.
Another 2,935 patients were admitted this month.
Moreover, 1,161 patients were hospitalised in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, and 1,773 in May.
Of the new patients admitted in the past 24 hours, 165 were from the two Dhaka city corporations.
Additionally, 85 patients were admitted in the rest of Dhaka Division, 17 in Mymensingh, 94 in Chattogram, 129 in Barishal, 54 in Rajshahi, three in Rangpur, one in Sylhet and 32 in Khulna.
Currently, 1,571 patients are undergoing treatment in different hospitals nationwide with dengue.
Of them, 519 are admitted to hospitals in Dhaka, and 1,052 are outside the capital.
Bangladesh saw 101,211 hospitalisations from dengue in 2024, with 575 deaths, which is the third-highest annual caseload and the second-highest death toll on record.
