In his address to the nation on Sept 11, Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus announced the formation of six commissions and their heads to drive state reform initiatives.
Initially, Supreme Court lawyer Shahdeen Malik was appointed as the head of the Constitutional Reform Commission.
But the Cabinet Division later picked Ali Riaz, a teacher and columnist, to lead the commission on Sept 18.
Later, on Oct 7, a nine-strong fully fledged commission was formed.
In its first meeting, the commission passed a condolence resolution to pay tribute to those who were martyred and wounded during the 1971 Liberation War, while honouring those who gave their lives and were wounded in the struggle to establish democracy in the post-independence era.
The commission also commemorated those who were killed and oppressed during the Awami League's 15-year reign. It also paid tribute to the sacrifices of those who were martyred during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement and the subsequent mass uprising that culminated in the ouster of the Awami League government on Aug 5.
During its first meeting, the commission members discussed the scope of their work and decided to create an official email account and a website for communications.
A decision was also made to schedule the next meeting for Oct 21 at the commission's office in Dhaka.
