Awami League stages protest march in Agargaon, 2 detained

The party activists have marched from the Bangladesh Betar headquarters to the Agargaon metro rail station around 3:30pm

More than a hundred Awami League activists have held a protest march against the interim government in Dhaka's Agargaon.

They marched from the Bangladesh Betar headquarters to the Agargaon metro rail station around 3:30pm on Saturday.

An Awami League leader who joined the march told bdnews24.com, “False cases are being filed across the country to harass Awami League supporters, including our leader Sheikh Hasina.

“The illegal government is doing whatever it wants, and we marched in protest of this.”

A police officer stationed near the protest said, “A few hundred people gathered outside the Bangladesh Betar HQ and marched towards the Agargaon metro rail while shouting slogans.”

Sher-E-Bangla Nagar Police chief Imaul Haque confirmed that two people were detained during the procession.

Earlier, the Awami League loyalists marched in Tejgaon’s Nabisco under a banner of “Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League”.

On Aug 31, they marched from Rafa Plaza on Dhanmondi 27 to the road outside Bangladesh Eye Hospital at Shankar.

A week earlier, several hundred Awami League activists demonstrated at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Gulistan.

Most recently, on Friday, hundreds of party members marched from Banglamotor towards the InterContinental Dhaka hotel after Jummah prayers.
