Satellite-based broadcasting operations in Bangladesh may be disrupted for eight days between Sept 29-Oct 6 due to a solar interference, Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) has warned.
In a statement on Wednesday, the BSCL said that solar interference was a normal astronomical event affecting geo-stationary satellites, occurring twice a year. It occurs when the sun lines up directly behind a satellite and overwhelms the signal with its strong radiation. It effects can range from signal degradation to a complete outage for satellite-dependent broadcasting.
The timing and duration of the interference depend on the Earth station's location, the satellite's position, and its operational frequency.
POSSIBLE DISRUPTION TIMES
Broadcasting operations may be disrupted for some time each day from Sept 29 to Oct 6 at the following times:
Sept 29, 9:35am to 9:38am: 3 minutes in total
Sept 30, 9:32am to 9:41am: 9 minutes in total
Oct 1, 9:30am to 9:42am: 12 minutes in total
Oct 2, 9:29am to 9:42am: 13 minutes in total
Oct 3, 9:29am to 9:42am: 13 minutes in total
Oct 4, 9:29am to 9:41am: 12 minutes in total
Oct 5, 9:29am to 9:40am: 11 minutes in total
Oct 6, 9:30am to 9:38am: 8 minutes in total
The BSCL said the interference period would be closely monitored.
