The Chief Advisor's Office (CAO) has said Bangladesh and Bhutan signed two memoranda of understanding on healthcare services and international internet bandwidth.

The MoUs were signed on Saturday at the Chief Advisor’s Office in Tejgaon. Two heads of the countries attended the meeting that saw the MoUs signed.

According to the Chief Advisor’s Office, Bhutan’s health ministry signed the MoU with Bangladesh’s Health Services Division on the recruitment of health workers. Md Saidur Rahman, secretary of the Health Services Division, signed on behalf of Bangladesh.

For the MoU on international internet bandwidth and the trade of telecommunication services, Abdun Naser Khan, secretary of the Post and Telecommunications Division, signed on behalf of Bangladesh.

Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay witnessed the signing and exchange of documents, the statement said.

Tobgay arrived in Dhaka at 8:15am on Saturday for a three-day visit. Yunus received him at Shahjalal International Airport. After a brief meeting between the two leaders at the airport, a team of the armed forces gave Tobgay a guard of honour.

Following the airport formalities, the Bhutanese premier travelled to the National Memorial in Savar to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War. Tobgay planted a sapling on the memorial premises and signed the visitors’ book during the visit.

In the afternoon, Tobgay held separate meetings with Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain and Commerce Advisor SK Bashir Uddin. The CAO said a state banquet will be hosted in the evening in honour of the Bhutanese prime minister and his delegation.

On Sunday, the Bhutanese premier will pay a courtesy call on President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban.

On the same day, several advisors to the Bangladesh government are expected to pay courtesy calls on the Bhutanese prime minister. A business delegation from Bangladesh may also meet him.

At the end of his visit, Tobgay will depart Dhaka for Thimphu on the morning of Nov 24. The foreign advisor will see him off at the airport.
