The highest number of nomination papers submitted for a single seat in the parliamentary elections is 18, while the lowest is two.

On Monday, 2,582 candidates tendered their nominations across 300 parliamentary constituencies.

Analysis of the submissions reveals that Pirojpur-1 has the lowest turnout with only two candidates. Dhaka-2, Thakurgaon-3, Chattogram-15, and Meherpur-2 each received three nominations.

The highest volume of interest was recorded in Dhaka-12 and Gazipur-2, where 18 nomination papers were filed per seat.

The general election is scheduled for Feb 12.

There is no opportunity for any candidate to be elected unopposed this year; if there is only a single candidate in a constituency, a “No” vote option will be included.

According to the schedule announced on Dec 11:

  • Deadline for submitting nominations: Dec 29

  • Scrutiny of nominations: Dec 30-Jan 4

  • Deadline for withdrawal of nomination: Jan 20

  • Final candidate list and symbol allocation: Jan 21

  • Election campaigning: Jan 22-Feb 10 (until 7:30am)

ASM Humayun Kabir, convenor of the Election Commission Secretariat’s central coordination committee and director general of the NID wing, said 3,407 nomination papers had been collected for the 300 constituencies.

Of these, nomination papers were submitted by 2,582 candidates.
