Broadband mobile internet service has resumed after a two-and-a-half-hour outage across the country. Mobile internet has returned as well.
Broadband internet was disrupted around 11am on Monday amid the ‘Long March to Dhaka’ programme called by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement. Broadband service returned around 1:30pm.
Mobile internet was shut off on Sunday alongside social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp.
The internet had previously been turned off amid nationwide clashes during the ‘complete shutdown’ programme called by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement on Jul 17. It was later restarted on Jul 28.
Broadband internet was also turned off from Jul 18 to Jul 23, disconnecting the country completely from the rest of the world.
Though internet service resumed on Aug 2, social media platforms like Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram did not return until the afternoon of Jul 31.
Facebook and Telegram were also unavailable on Aug 2 for about seven hours.
After widespread violence during the complete non-cooperation programme called by protesters, the government announced a curfew from 6pm on Sunday.
The Anti-discrimination Student Movement announced a ‘Long March to Dhaka’ programme on Monday.
