The Supreme Court is set to deliver its ruling on Jul 30 in the appeal filed by former Awami League leader Md Mobarak Hossain, who was sentenced to death in 2014.
A five-strong Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed passed the order on Tuesday.
Senior lawyer Imran Abdullah Siddique argued for Mobarak, while International Crimes Tribunal Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim represented the prosecution.
Mobarak served as the organising secretary of the Mogra union unit of the Awami League in Akhaura Upazila of Brahmanbaria until 2012.
On Nov 24, 2014, the ICT-1, comprising Justices M Enayetur Rahim, Jahangir Hossain, and Anwarul Haque, sentenced Mobarak to death for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
The tribunal ordered capital punishment by hanging, the maximum penalty under the law.
The judgment said Mobarak had been one of the key members of the Razakar force in Brahmanbaria in 1971.
Out of five charges brought against him, two were proven.
The tribunal handed him the death penalty in one charge and life imprisonment in the other.
Following the conviction, Mobarak appealed to overturn the death sentence.
The hearing on his appeal began on Jul 8 this year.
