So far, 60,588 Bangladeshi nationals have returned home after performing Hajj. Fifty-four Bangladeshis have died while performing pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

According to the latest bulletin for the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the total number of return flights as of 2am on Thursday was 152. Of the passengers, 4,319 Hajj pilgrims travelled on government packages, while 56,269 made the journey through private arrangements.

Among the airlines, 26,868 pilgrims returned home from Saudi on 76 Biman Bangladesh Airlines flights, 21,045 pilgrims returned home on 54 Saudia Airlines flights, 8,672 pilgrims returned home on 22 Flynas flights, and 4,003 pilgrims returned home on flights from other airlines.

This year, Hajj was held on May 26. Return flights started on May 30 after the Hajj. They will continue until Jun 30.

Meanwhile, of the 54 pilgrims who have died in Saudi Arabia so far, 36 are men and 18 are women. Of the group, 37 died in Makkah, 16 in Madinah and one in Jeddah. There is no information about the death of any pilgrims in Mina, Arafa, or Muzdalifah.

The last death recorded was 44-year-old Aklima Akhter, a resident of Cumilla’s Debidwar, who died in Madinah last Tuesday. Aklima arrived in Jeddah on a Biman Bangladesh flight on May 19.

Last year, 48 people died during the Hajj. The highest death count in recent years was 121 in 2023.

The Ministry of Religion says that 66,249 automatic medical prescriptions have been issued so far from medical centres in Saudi Arabia. In addition, 415 pilgrims have received treatment at local hospitals. Currently, 15 pilgrims are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

This year, 4,565 pilgrims travelled for the pilgrimage under the government package and 73,935 under the private packages offered by the 30 lead Hajj agencies approved by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The first pre-Hajj flight to Saudi Arabia left Dhaka on Apr 18 and the last flight arrived on May 21.
