The chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission and the two commissioners have resigned, marking the latest shake-up in key positions since the new government took office.
ACC chief Mohammad Abdul Momen and commissioners Mia Mohammad Ali Akbar Azizi and Hafiz Ahsan Farid met the cabinet secretary at the Secretariat on Tuesday afternoon. Their resignations were confirmed afterwards.
Speaking to bdnews24.com after submitting his resignation letter, Azizi said he had stepped down for personal reasons.
“I submitted my resignation for personal reasons. We worked for the past 15 months. Our performance will be judged by you,” he said.
“However, I can say that compared to previous commissions, we have done more work.”
Officials said Momen and the commissioners were carrying out official duties at the ACC headquarters in Segunbagicha earlier on Tuesday before submitting their resignations.
Changes in the ACC leadership had followed the fall of the Awami League government in the July 2024 Uprising.
The interim government led by Muhammad Yunus appointed Momen as chief of the graftbusters on Dec 12, 2024. Prior to that, he had been serving as a senior secretary on a contractual basis.
Two days earlier, on Dec 10, retired district judge Azizi and retired brigadier general Hafiz were appointed as commissioners.
Azizi assumed office on Dec 11, while Hafiz joined on Dec 15.
