Seven new members have been appointed to the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, or PSC.
The newly appointed members will serve for five years or until they turn 65, whichever comes first.
The newly inductees are Prof Ferdous Arfina Osman from Dhaka University, Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury, a retired foreign service officer, Md Munir Hossain, a retired additional inspector general of police, Prof Shahnaz Sarkar from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Prof Dr ATM Farid Uddin, BCS Health Cadre, Prof Md Sharif Hossain from Dhaka University, and retired Brig Gen Md Anwarul Islam.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Tuesday formalising their appointments.
As per the notification, the president made these appointments under the authority granted by Article 138(1) of the Constitution.
Prof Farid Uddin’s appointment is subject to his resignation from any other profession, business, or employment in government, semi-government, or private organisations.
With these new additions, the total number of PSC members now stands at 14.
Previously, on Jan 2, six individuals—including Prof Shahnaz Sarker, Md Munir Hossain, AF Zoglul Ahmed, Md Mizanur Rahman, Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury, and Prof Syeda Shahina Sobhan—were appointed to the commission.
However, their appointments were revoked on Jan 13.
Before this, the government had appointed eight members in two phases, who continue to serve in the commission.
