Standing Committee member MK Anwar, Adviser to Chairperson Abdul Awal Mintoo and Joint Secretary General Aman Ullah Aman have been ordered to surrender in trial court within a week.

The order by the appeals bench led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha came on Monday after it resolved a plea by the state to stay their bail in 52 cases of violence.

The top court, however, turned down the state’s plea to stay bail for another BNP leader Tariqul Islam in four cases of violence.

On Jul 9, the High Court granted a four-week anticipatory bail for the four BNP leaders.

The state moved the Supreme Court’s Chamber Judge to stay the bail, who then forwarded it to the Appellate Division and fixed Jul 27 for the hearing.

Additional Attorney General Murad Reza argued for the state during Monday’s hearing.

“The incidents happened in January and they pleaded for anticipatory bail in July. The Appellate Division deemed the High Court’s bail as illogical,” he told bdnews24.com.
