"The BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami have failed to stop the 2014 election. They are now engaging in the London conspiracy," said Mohammad Hanif, convener of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance on Tuesday.

Ruling party politicians have voiced suspicion about BNP chief Khaleda Zia's trip to the UK, where her eldest son Tarique Rahman has been staying.

"They have provided visions for the next election and talked about having a government for assisting the election as part of its effort to foil the election," he said.

Awami League presidium member Hanif was briefing reporters after a meeting with 14-party leaders at the Awami League chief's office in Dhanmondi.

The BNP has been out of parliament since it boycotted the 10th national elections in 2014. It has strongly recommended a “poll-time neutral assisting government” for the next polls.

Nasim, also the health minister, said: “The (BNP) has always secured power through conspiracies but we are prepared to foil its every attempt.”

There is no scope for violating the current Constitution in the matter of election, he said, against BNP leaders who said it should be amended to reflect the desires of the people.

“We believe the Election Commission will conduct the polls in a free and fair manner,” he said, stating his confidence on its recently announced roadmap.

Nasim faced questions from reporters about a Jamaat-e-Islami leader's daughter joining the central body of the Mahila Awami League, the women front of the ruling Awami League.

“I am hearing this for the first time. I will ask my party memberts to look into the matter because the prime minister is against accepting anyone involved with anti-liberation forces.”
