Moudud Ahmed, a BNP standing committee member, was speaking at a discussion in Dhaka on Friday.

“We hope the president will provide a fruitful solution, so that all of us are happy. People should be able trust the search committee and the commission it forms.”

“We must be able to feel that it’s capable of holding a fair election.”

The term of the present Election Commission headed by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad is set to end in February.

President Md Abdul Hamid held meetings with 31 political parties before he sets up the next commission in line with his constitutional duty.

The dialogue with political parties at Bangabhaban started on Dec 18 with his meeting with the BNP, during which he was handed a 13-point proposal for the new commission that will oversee the next parliamentary election scheduled for 2019.
