Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Ray on Saturday campaigned for the party's candidate Shakhawat Hossain Khan in the city.

The ruling Awami League has put incumbent mayor Selina Hayat Ivy as its candidate.

Leaders from the BNP-led 20-Party alliance also joined the campaign, which took off after a rally from the Narayanganj BNP offices at the city's Chasharha.

"The people of Narayanganj, who believe in the rule of law, democracy and right to vote have gathered here today," said Mirza Fakhrul. "The people of Narayanganj will choose the candidate nominated by Khaleda Zia in this election."

Leaders of the 20-Party alliance campaigned at the city's Kolibazar, Puran Court, Golachipa, and Chasharha’s Dipo Bazar area. They distributed leaflets and sought votes for Sakhawat.

Seven mayor aspirants are running in the polls slated for Dec 22 while election officials cleared 156 councillor candidates and another 37 for reserved women councillors.
