Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Alamgir Kabir Raj set Apr 5 for the next hearing, following a petition for time filed by the defence on Sunday.

The witnesses and some of the accused including Fakhrul were absent in the court.

After framing charges in the case on Sep 20, the court had set Dec 4 to hear the witnesses.

Mirza Fakhrul and 23 others appeared before the court and pleaded not guilty. The court issued arrest warrants against the rest the same day.

Paltan police’s Sub-Inspector Abu Taher filed the case on Dec 9, 2012 for murder attempt on police, obstructing police while performing duties and holding rallies illegally.

Paltan police’s Sub-Inspector Abu Zafar submitted the chargesheet against the 74 on Jul 28, 2014.

According to the case details, five crude bombs were hurled from a BNP rally on Dec 9, 2012 in front of the Hotel Capital in Dhaka’s Paltan area. Four other crude bombs were hurled from another section of the rally to ‘kill police.’

The chargesheet says that Mirza Fakhrul had ‘threatened’ people not to take out their cars during the blockade of the 18-party alliance.
