"This farce in the name of a search committee has to be stopped. We are very well aware what this committee will do," Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu said on Saturday.

He said that a solution should be arrived at through discussions. "We need to arrive at a solution through discussion between Khaleda Zia (BNP chief), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other major opposition parties."

The term of the Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad-led current commission expires in February next year.

Law Minister Anisul Huq had recently hinted at forming a 'search committee' to finalise the commission's composition.

"Do anything, constitute anything. But a verdict that does not reflect the popular verdict will not be tolerated by the people of this country," BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said recently.
