Jatiya Party MPs meet Pranab Mukherjee, Sushma Swaraj, Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi

An opposition Jatiya Party parliamentary delegation has met Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in Nbew Delhi.

They discussed ways of strengthening bilateral relations further.

Head of the delegation, Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, told bdnews24.com on Saturday that they also met Vice President of the opposition Congress Party Rahul Gandhi during the weeklong visit.

Fakrul Imam, Advocate Ziaul Huq Mridha, Mohammad Noman, Nurul Islam Milon, Pir Fazlur Rahman, Amir Hussain Bhuiya and Advocate Altaf Ali are the other members of the first such Jatiya Party delegation visited India at the government’s invitation. They will return on Sunday.

Bablu said they also met with the deputy speaker of the parliament and interacted with the ruling BJP leaders including their Secretary General Ram Mahadev.

They also met former Indian high commissioner in Dhaka Veena Sikri.

He said during those meetings they had projected Bangladesh, and how to take the relations to a new height by addressing common challenges such as terrorism.

He said they also discussed issues of trade imbalance, and common river water management. “We have also exchanged opinion about the strengthening of SAARC”.

They also interacted with the Observer Research Foundation, Vivekananda Foundation, Research and Information System for Developing Countries, and attended a roundtable on India and Bangladesh cooperation.

Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla earlier before their departure said the visit would “add another chapter in our growing engagements between both the countries”.
