The court on Monday accepted the chargesheet and issued warrants for nine people, including Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi and BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s Special Assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas.

Rizvi was released on bail last December after being held in jail for 10 months.

The senior BNP leader has been accused of orchestrating an explosion and the firebombing of a bus in January 2015 at Dhaka’s Pallabi area when his party was enforcing a countrywide transport blockade.

Police have also pressed charges against BNP leader Habib-un-Nanbi Khan Sohel and Khaleda’s Press Secretary Maruf Kamal Khan in same the case.

Amid the BNP’s protest movement in early 2015, police had, on Jan 3, whisked Rizvi off to a Dhaka hospital from the party headquarters because, according to them, he had fallen ‘sick’.

But Rizvi managed to slip away four days later and went into hiding, issuing frequent statements from an unknown location.

On Jan 30, he was picked by elite police unit RAB from a house in capital Dhaka’s Baridhara.

He has been named in 36 cases of violence during the BNP’s agitation and subjected to 30 days of interrogation in police custody.
