This would be the former prime minister’s first public appearance after the BNP held its sixth National Council in March this year.

The rally presided by Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal President Anwar Hossain started around 1:30pm.

Khaleda is scheduled to reach the venue by 3:30pm, her Press Secretary Maruf Kamal Khan told bdnews24.com.

The last time BNP held a rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan was in January 2014.

Khaleda, however, addressed a public rally on Jan 5 this year in front of the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police allowed the BNP to hold the rally after fixing 24 conditions, including wrapping it up by 5:30pm as well as not hindering traffic movement in the city.
