The men also set fire to two motorcycles during the agitation outside the building around 4pm, Paltan Police Station OC Morshed Alam said on Monday.

The fire has gutted Chhatra Dal's office on the third floor, according to the fire service.

The office of the party’s youth wing, the Juba Dal, housed on the same floor, have also been partially damaged.

The agitated Chhatra Dal leaders also vandalised the organisation’s Dhaka North and South unit offices as well as the BNP’s main office.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia had on Saturday given her approval to the newly constituted central committee, consisting of 736 members.

Committees had also been formed for its units in Dhaka University, Jagannath University, Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka district, and Dhaka city.

The leaders said the size of the central committee, which earlier comprised 151 members, had been enlarged to accommodate those denied posts.

On Sunday night, two leaders had been dropped from the body.
