The party’s Assistant Office Secretary Asadul Karim Shahin on Tuesday appealed to the Election Commission (EC) Additional Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman for another month and a half to file the accounts.

Earlier, the EC had asked the country’s 40 registered political parties to submit their audit reports for 2014-15 by July 31.

The Awami League sought a month’s extension on Sunday.

The BNP’s Shahin told journalists on Tuesday they requested the extension because the party secretary general was away and the audit report was yet to be finalised.

No party except the Bangladesh Muslim League (BML), registered in 2013, has submitted its report.

Last year, the EC had extended the submission deadline following requests from several parties including the Awami League and the BNP.

The law gives the commission the right to cancel the registration of any party if it fails to submit its audit report for three successive years.
