Speaking at an Iftar at a hotel in Dhaka on Monday, the BNP chief said her party would accept whatever the results are if the elections were fair.
“An election has to be conducted which will be truly participated by all. Whoever wins the election will form government.
Describing the Awami League-government ‘unelected’, the former prime minister said women were being tortured and oppressed every day in the country.
She took a dig at Jatiya Party chief HM Ershad for his comment that ‘women are the showpieces’ in Parliament.
Bikalpadhara Bangladesh organised the Iftar.
Its chief AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury called upon the ‘nationalist forces’ to be united rising above all petty interests.
Jatiya Party splinter group’s Kazi Zafar Ahmed, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal’s ASM Abdur Rab, Kalyan Party’s Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, Gono Forum’s Subrata Chowdhury, BNP’s Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Bikalpadhara’s Abdul Mannan sat with Khaleda in the same table.
Leaders of Muslim League, Labour Party, Samyabadi Dal and Islami Oikya Jote also joined the Iftar.
